About Elena

I am a graduate from Parsons Paris The New School, where I spent 4 years completing my BFA in Fashion Design & Collection Development. I work as a menswear design at Aimé Leon Dore, and design and sell clothing and jewelry for my own brand. Tutoring is a passion of mine -- I love to re-connect students with sewing and make projects possible at all levels.

About the lesson

I offer tutoring in sewing and portfolio design for students of all levels. I am based in NYC and am happy to work with you at home or in my Williamsburg studio.

Portfolio Design:
Together we will dive into your artistic universe, to shape your work's legibility and personality. I offer help applying to top competitive design schools by making your portfolio as strong as possible. Story-telling is everything in fashion, so my lessons focus on showing the process, enriching your research, and developing a finalized art book.

Sewing Lessons:
Each lesson is based on a creative project that we will work on together. I have a library of garment blocks from Parsons if you are interested in making clothing. Together we will go through the basics of pattern making, choosing and cutting fabric, and construction with different seams and sewing techniques. You will also learn to understand your machine (tension, basic maintenance, threading the bobbin) and what materials to buy to have an at-home studio equipped for any project.

I really enjoyed working with Noa on her portfolio. We created separate portfolios for FIT, Parsons, Pratt, and Drexel, with a focus on fashion design. She was very organized and open to re-working past design projects to show them in their best light for portfolio submission. A very hard-working student who made big progress, I wish her the best of luck for applications this year!
