About David
I am a professional painter and visual artist with over 15 years of professional experience and 26 years of hands-on painting practice in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. I have dedicated my entire life to developing strong traditional painting skills, with a focus on brushwork, technique, and artistic versatility across multiple styles.
My work has been exhibited throughout the Phoenix Valley in a wide range of art shows, and my paintings have also been featured in publications and magazines. Over the years, I have built a reputation among fellow artists for technical skill, adaptability, and a strong understanding of both classical and contemporary painting approaches.
I am experienced in both small-scale detailed painting and large-scale compositions, allowing me to guide students in controlling precision as well as broader expressive work. My experience includes projects ranging from fine, intricate brushwork to large-format works, including commissioned pieces for institutions such as the Roberto Venn School of Lutherie, where my painting contributed to a world-renowned guitar-making community.
My teaching is grounded in essential principles such as light source, value, composition, color mixing, and brush control, applied across all styles and subjects.
As a painting instructor, I focus on helping students build confidence through structured fundamentals combined with creative freedom. I tailor each lesson to the student’s level and goals, whether beginner or advanced, with the aim of developing strong technique and personal artistic voice.

I tailor every painting lesson to the student’s current skill level, goals, and preferred artistic style. My approach begins with understanding what the student wants to achieve, whether that is learning fundamentals, improving technique, or developing a personal style.
From there, I guide students through applying those fundamentals to subject matter they personally choose, allowing creative freedom while reinforcing technique. This combination ensures each lesson is structured yet flexible, so students build confidence while working on artwork that reflects their interests.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to quickly assess a student’s level and adapt instruction in real time. I can teach in multiple styles and adjust my demonstrations so students understand not just how to paint, but why each technique works.
My lessons are suitable for beginners, hobbyists, or advanced students, including those pursuing professional development or formal art education. I emphasize hands-on learning, clear guidance, and helping students develop their own artistic voice through practice and exploration.
Every session is customized to help each student grow confidently as a painter.
