About Wangshu

I am a professional cellist based in New York City, trained at the Juilliard School and currently pursuing my doctorate at the Manhattan School of Music. My career spans chamber, orchestral, and solo performances, alongside a deep commitment to teaching. Since 2019, I have run a private studio and taught at several New York music schools, guiding students of all ages and backgrounds. I believe it’s never too late to learn an instrument. Many of my students are adult learners who come to the cello for personal enrichment, creative expression, or simply the joy of trying something new. My lessons combine patience, clear technical instruction, and imagination — helping students progress steadily while keeping the experience enjoyable and meaningful. I tailor each lesson to the individual: whether you’re a beginner exploring your first notes, or a returning musician hoping to reconnect with music, I will meet you where you are. My approach emphasizes curiosity, storytelling, and creativity, making the learning process both disciplined and inspiring. About the lesson

Learning the cello as an adult is both rewarding and challenging — and it deserves a teacher who understands how to balance patience, technique, and inspiration. My teaching is rooted in years of experience as a professional performer and educator, with training from the Juilliard and an active career in chamber, orchestral, and solo performing.

I specialize in helping students find their own voice on cello, whether they are returning to music after years away or beginning for the first time. My approach is flexible and collaborative- I draw on history, storytelling, and curiosity to make learning engaging, while also giving clear technical foundations to build confidence and progress steadily.

Many of my students tell me they value how I connect music to life skills- focus, resilience, creativity- and how lessons give them both structure and joy in their daily lives. My goal is not just to teach you how to play the cello, but to make music a meaningful part of your life.
