About Folliot

I trained at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and performed works by Seán Curran, Crystal Pite, MADBOOTS DANCE, and Paul Taylor. While in NYC, I worked professionally for Keely Garfield, Jodi Melnick, Heidi Latsky and interned for A.I.M the Kyle Abraham dance company. I continued my training at the notable, Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, and worked with European dance masters such as Meytal Blanaru, Edivaldo Ernesto, Manuel Ronda, and Julian Hamilton. I performed in creations and repertoire processes by Hodworks, Konstandina Efthimiadou, and Cullberg Ballet. I am currently working with Meytal Blanaru on her new piece Undivided.

About the lesson

I am a dancer, choreographer, and artist from New York currently working professionally out of Brussels, Belgium. I believe that a sensitive and personal relationship to the body creates the foundation for a refined and technical dancer. I approach contemporary dance technique from a somatic and personalized perspective. It is important for me to check in with my students at the beginning of each class in order to create a dynamic and engaging session relevant to their interests. We begin class by tuning and grounding the body through somatic practice influenced by my work with the Feldenkrais and Gaga methods. I use technical exercises grounded in ballet and Cunningham to challenge coordination, and utilize improvisation to find moments of freedom. I always end the class in a final moment of set choreography which we expand upon every week. My goal with my dance classes is to have you engaged, concentrated and investigating what it means to be alive in your body right now! I am never interested in a 'perfect body', I am interested in how we can let go of tension and expectations to move with more freedom through different impulses, ideas, parameters, and knowledge. Not only is he a fantastic teacher with a great deal of empathy, patience and unique exercises that push his students, but he is also a very easygoing and open person, and gives space for learners to self-develop. Additionally, he is an active listener, and so can adapt quickly in order to accommodate a learner’s needs and get the most out of their abilities. I highly recommend Folliot as your English teacher, there’s no doubt that you’ll have a good time and learn a lot.
