About Dylan

I am an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who plays drums, piano, bass and mandolin, however my focus is teaching acoustic and electric guitar, in styles such as Pop, Folk, Celtic, Rock, Blues, Classical, Jazz, RnB, Country, Finger Style, Travis Picking.

As mentioned I have over 10 years experience in live performance, songwriting and even more playing guitar. I have a degree in Contemporary Music from Southern Cross University and lived experience in most parts of the music industry giving me a holistic understanding of the musical landscape and the technical knowledge to apply it to musicians at any level.

During my career I've had a number of highlights including playing at Byron Bay Blues Festival, Splendour in the grass and 100's of venues in Australia and America. Additionally I have been a finalist for awards such as the International Songwriters Competition (2023), Listen Up Music songwriting competition (2023) and the Dolphin Music Awards.

In addition to teaching guitar I have a passion for sound engineering, and helping people learn how to record, edit and mix their own music at home using industry stand programs such as Logic Pro X, Abelton Live and Pro Tools. This love of sound production led me on a journey across the sea where I studied abroad at Appalachian State University in North Carolina.

About the lesson

Every student wants to be heard and at 'You Music Mentorship' I
listen to you and craft carefully tailored lessons based on your goals and help you achieve them.

My teaching style is down to earth, supportive and usually includes a laugh. I take time to get to know my students, and provide a personalised approach to mentoring them.

A typical lesson is 30 minutes to an hour, weekly online or at my studio in Pascoe Vale south 3044. After each lesson I will set weekly goals for you to complete which are essentially stepping stones towards reaching your overall goals. This will include any relevant work sheets, music notation or links. Additionally if you're receiving online lessons I often record a short recap video covering important information and technical exercises.

I have over a decade of experience in live performance, sound engineering, touring, song writing and have a bachelor’s degree in contemporary music from Southern Cross University to back it up.
