About Natalia

I am a dancer, social communication graduate, and marketing assistant, which clearly shows my love for “slashes” and reflects my curiosity and perseverance for everything
that sparks my interest.

I have been dancing salsa and bachata for 10 years, carving my
path in competitions and creating my own choreographies.
Dedicating myself to salsa, a community that grew in the neighborhoods and is still relatively young, makes it
challenging to maintain that level of organization. However, university taught me to approach everything with seriousness, embrace my “nerdy” side, and excel in a largely experiential environment.

I began dancing in Bogotá, Colombia, but the pursuit of my dreams brought me to New York, where I am part of Yamulee, one of the most recognized and established
companies in the Latin dance genre.

Since I have done many different things in my life and did not start my dance career at the age of four like many others, this has helped me understand how challenging it can be to start something new and realize that it is not easy. Because of that, I have a more conscious approach to teaching and to guiding the body in learning how to dance. Additionally, I enjoy doing functional training Pilates, and other types of physical activities, which have given me tools to better understand the body and how it can function effectively for dance.

There is much more I could say, but I’ll summarize it like this: I am a professional dancer who continues to learn, curious and eager to grow, always ready for new projects and to connect with people who love art as much as I do. I am passionate about continuing as a cultural ambassador of salsa, a dance that flows through my Latin veins.

About the lesson

Method and techniques:

My teaching method focuses on building a strong foundation in timing, body movement, and partner connection. I combine technical training with musicality so that students not only learn the steps but also understand how to dance naturally with the music. I adapt my teaching to each student’s level and learning style, using clear breakdowns, repetition, and practical exercises to help them gain confidence.

Lesson plan:

A typical lesson begins with a short warm-up to work on rhythm, basic steps, and body movement. Then we focus on technique and new material, such as footwork, partnerwork, or turns. After that, we practice combinations and apply them to music to develop timing and musicality. The lesson ends with review and guided practice so students can feel comfortable and confident with what they learned.

What sets you apart as a tutor:

With more than 10 years of experience in salsa and training in countries such as Cuba, Colombia, and New York, I bring a diverse and authentic perspective to my teaching. I focus on helping students not only learn moves, but also truly understand the music, expression, and culture behind salsa.

In addition, I studied Social Communication, which gives me an academic approach to dance. This means I am not only a dancer, but also a pedagogue of movement, able to structure learning in a clear, intentional, and effective way.

Who the lessons are for:

My lessons are open to students of all levels, from complete beginners who want their first introduction to salsa and movement, to intermediate and professional dancers who want to improve their technique, style, and musicality. I work with adults and teens who want to learn salsa for social dancing, personal growth, or performance preparation.
