The girl is at the intermediate level, who can use accurate vocabularies to describe the picture and express her ideas in Chinese fluently. Her pronunciation is clear and accurately, sometimes there are some mistakes but that doesn't matter. Her listening skills and grammar knowledge is above HSK 3.

The boy can express himself in Mandarin clearly but sometimes he has to think in English first. His vocabulary and listening skills need to be improved. In a word, his mandarin level is nearly HSK 2.

Both of these two learners are good at Pinyin.

Archie has learnt some Chinese characters before but all of them are traditional versions. Without pinyin, he can recognize some but when asked related questions, he cannot reply by the vocabulary he has learned. Also, sometimes he mixed the Cantonese pronunciation with the Mandarin.
Mia has mastered a range of Chinese characters (traditional version) and even though she did not understand the teacher’s questions, she can respond to those questions by the example or hints (all in Mandarin) from the teacher. The same issue as Archie is that she has already known that vocabulary, but she cannot use them properly. Also, sometimes, she may mix Cantonese and Mandarin.
