About Joe
Joe Chalmers is a London-based Bass-Baritone from Winchester, Hampshire. He continued to sing in a choral setting throughout his teenage years as part of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, working with Alexander L'Estrange and Kylie Minogue, before beginning his studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Joe has been a Voces8 Scholar and continues to perform regularly alongside the Voces8 foundation.
As a freelance singer, Joe enjoys a busy performance career. In Autumn 2021, he took a cover role for the English Nation Opera; notably stepping-in for the final performance, whilst making his Colosseum debut, in the role of Captain Corcoran in HMS Pinafore.
Joe has also performed with Garsington Opera, Longborough Festival Opera and British Youth Opera. Joe has also been a vocal coach for national youth arts charity, RicNic.
For three years, Joe coached singers and performers with ranging experiences on musicals such as West Side Story, The Pajama Game and Guys & Dolls.

Using his background across multiple styles of music, Joe currently offers a broad teaching service to people of all ages and levels of skills. Having performed a wide array of opera, choral, oratorio and even musical theatre, Joe is confident with classical, pop and musical theatre repertoire.
Joe believes a foundation in vocal technique is essential to building the voice, no matter your ultimate goal. His focus on the anatomical connection to the body ensures an understanding and grounding of the body, not only when singing, but also in your day-to-day life. If you wish to find a teacher who tailors each lesson to you, instead of following a ‘one way fits all’ method, then Joe can help you find that confidence in your own sound.
