About Tony
I’m Tony Donaldson, a professional photographer, cinematographer and former magazine editor based in Los Angeles. Over the course of my career, I’ve photographed assignments for clients including ESPN, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Sony, Time, Activision and Vans Shoes.
I spent seven years as the editor of Electric Bike Action magazine, where I was responsible for both photography and editorial content. I have also served as a technical consultant for aerospace companies and photographic equipment manufacturers. These experiences strengthened my ability to explain technical concepts clearly, solve problems efficiently and adapt to people with different levels of experience.
I understand that photography can initially feel overwhelming, especially when learning camera settings, lighting and editing. My goal is to make those skills approachable and useful while helping each student develop confidence and their own visual style. I’m patient, encouraging and committed to providing honest, constructive feedback in a professional and supportive environment.

My lessons are practical, personalized and built around your goals, experience level and the camera equipment you already own. We’ll cover camera settings, exposure, composition, natural and artificial lighting, and photo editing through clear demonstrations and hands-on assignments.
A typical lesson begins with reviewing your images and identifying what is working and what can be improved. We’ll then focus on a specific technique, put it into practice and finish with an assignment designed to reinforce what you learned.
I bring decades of real-world experience as a professional photographer and former magazine editor, including assignments for ESPN, The New York Times, Vans Shoes and many more. My lessons are for beginners, enthusiasts and emerging professionals who want straightforward guidance, constructive feedback and skills they can apply immediately.
