About Richard
I am a qualified professional Secondary English teacher who holds both QTS and PGCE. I have worked in the state sector in schools and did private tutoring successfully before this alongside a previous career as a professional actor. I am currently taking a break from teaching to complete a second master's degree in International Development and Education at Newcastle University. When not working, I enjoy running, climbing, cycling, and swimming as well as reading, writing poetry, and playing the guitar.

Although not student-led, I like to get a feel for what a student's goals are and where they feel are their areas of weakness - this means that we can then approach these aims together pragmatically in the interests of their progress. I do set homework, especially for students at GCSE and A Level, as students usually need this time to complete assignments such as quizzes, essays or past papers to check knowledge and understanding and for me to assess their progress, but most of the sessions will be based around either content delivery and questioning or feedback and reflection on their work. I am happy to discuss more about my approach in person at an initial session or before engaging my services.
