About Sang Bin

I am a professional violinist and teacher based in Watford, with a Master's degree from the Royal College of Music, where I graduated with First-Class Honours. I previously studied at the Royal Academy of Music, completing my Bachelor's degree there.

I have over ten years of teaching experience and have taught students from the age of 4 through to adults, from complete beginners to advanced players. Alongside private teaching, I have experience teaching in schools and colleges, as well as working with chamber groups, orchestras and young musicians.

As a professional performer, I bring the same attention to detail and musical standards that I apply to my own playing into my teaching. However, I believe being a good performer and being a good teacher are not the same thing. My priority is understanding each student's individual needs and finding the approach that helps them progress most effectively.

Whether a student wants to learn for enjoyment, prepare for ABRSM examinations, develop their technique, or work towards a higher level of performance, I aim to give them a strong musical foundation while making lessons enjoyable and rewarding.

About the lesson

Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. I don't believe in giving every student the same exercises or expecting everyone to learn in the same way.

For beginners, I focus on establishing good technique from the beginning while making sure that learning the violin remains enjoyable. For younger students, I place particular importance on keeping them engaged and giving them a clear sense of progress.

For intermediate and advanced students, lessons can go much deeper into technique, tone production, musical interpretation, phrasing and performance. I also have extensive experience with ABRSM preparation and can help students work towards examinations while developing their playing beyond simply preparing for the next grade.

For adults, whether you are starting from scratch or returning to the violin after many years, I can adapt lessons around your goals and experience.

My aim is for students to leave every lesson with a clear understanding of what they have achieved, what they need to improve, and—most importantly—a reason to look forward to playing again.
