About Debbie
Hello and thank you for reading my profile. I am a frequently-published magazine writer with two Ivy League degrees (French and Political Science) and decades of experience. In addition to my journalistic activities, I lead a variety of groups (current events, creative writing, literature analysis) for senior citizens in nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout my state. My groups are informative, enjoyable and highly participatory---- all qualities I would bring to our tutoring sessions.

I tailor my lessons to each student's level and learning style. For a beginning French student, for example, I would use flash cards and grammar charts for a visual learner, but conversation and singing for an auditory learner.
With a writing student, my job is to make the assignment less overwhelming. Before asking the student to write anything at all, I have him or her tell me, in casual language, how he or she might respond to the question. I then have him/her write down exactly what they just said. Once we have something on paper (or screen), we can then build on it. Grammar and spelling can always be fixed later on in the writing process.
