About Lavinia

I have been taught at the Conservatoire of the city of Luxembourg as well as Karl-Berg Musikschule in Trier, Germany, before moving to London. I am currently playing in several London student orchestras including the University of London Symphony Orchestra, the King's College Symphony Orchestra, the Odyssey Festival Orchestra and the Imperial College Symphony Orchestra. I have been actively involved in the University of London Symphony Orchestra for many years and have just completed my second year as chair.

About the lesson

I am friendly and approachable, making the lessons a safe space to really give it your best and share the love for such a wonderful sounding instrument. Whilst my teaching is technical (to help with dexterity and accuracy) I like to focus on tone, sensitivity, projection and musicianship - especially at the earlier levels to help unleash your inner musician! As chair of one of the top student orchestras in the UK (ULSO), I have sat on the "other" side of the audition table many times. As such I have great expertise in how to ace auditions, from excerpts, to sight reading, to stage presence and other performance factors as I have been the one doing the assessment for many years. I have heard hundreds of musicians play in this context so we can quickly diagnose any limiting factors in your playing and work on them together. The first lesson is free. In this first lesson we can get to know each other and I can get familiar with your technique, goals and preferences. In the next lessons we work on pieces and exercises to improve key aspects of your technique and/or work on musicality!
