About Serena
Hello! My name is Serena, and I'm a recent graduate of the University of Connecticut's honors college with a bachelors degree in Physiology and Neurobiology. My passions lie in the health sciences, and I have an extensive research background surrounding brain cancer, cellular wound healing, nutritional intervention, and now clinical cardiology research. I really enjoy teaching scientific topics to any level of student. In college, I was a biochemistry tutor and helped a group of 10 students understand complicated topics weekly with practice questions and interactive presentations. I have also worked as a teacher in elementary schools, and can adjust my styles for any level of knowledge. Above all, I work very hard to make sure my students feel understood, supported and listened to in terms of their goals and ways of learning. I look forward to meeting you and building a plan so you can succeed in your academic and life endeavors!

If you are looking to advance your understanding of basic biology, anatomy and physiology, cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, neuroscience, nutrition, or virtually any basic science, I am a good fit for you. Whether you are taking a middle school biology class for the first time, or preparing for a college neuroanatomy exam, I will tailor my lesson plans to fit your goals and learning styles. I also am experienced with administering MCAT practice and can work with you to your advance your medical school dreams.
My favorite way to structure a class is with interactive power-points, lots of practice questions, and a component where you get to verbally or visually map out concepts as if you were explaining it to me. I've found that that the best way to learn a concept is to be able to teach it yourself. If you decide to attend my classes, you will not just be able to remember the information clearly, but understand it so deeply that you'll turn into an expert yourself!
