About Anagha
Hi there!
I am Anagha Vinod and I am a first-year Master's student in the Psychology, Neuroscience and Behavior program at McMaster University. I did my undergraduate in Neurosciences at McMaster. My research involves using a brain imaging technique called fNIRS to understand infants' brain development and measure brain activity in newborns with brain injuries.
I am passionate about teaching because I love sharing knowledge and it also challenges me to learn and grow alongside my students. I started peer tutoring in high school, helping classmates grasp challenging math and science concepts. Since starting my undergraduate studies, I have worked as a private tutor for high school students in math and science. I volunteered as a tutor at the Learning Disability Association Halton-Hamilton where I taught literary skills to students with learning disabilities. I also volunteered as a tutor for the CIHR Canadian National Brain Bee, where I helped high school students prepare for a neuroscience competition. Through these experiences, I learned valuable skills including the ability to tailor learning materials to meet each student's individual needs, ensuring they grasp the material effectively.
Currently, I am working as a math instructor at Mathnesium, where I tutor foundational math skills to students between 1-12 grades.
I also worked as a teaching assistant for second and third-year undergraduate psychology and neuroscience courses. My responsibilities included preparing tutoring materials and leading tutorials to solidify lecture and textbook concepts, clarify students' concepts, grade students' writing, discuss research papers etc.
I'm passionate about sharing my knowledge and helping students achieve their full academic potential. I believe that learning should be both challenging and enjoyable, and I'm committed to creating a supportive environment where students can thrive.

- My tutoring approach focuses on fostering a deep understanding of concepts and developing a love for learning. My experience tutoring high school students and working as a TA for undergraduate psychology courses has helped me gain valuable insights into the best teaching strategies that would allow students to achieve their academic goals.
- My typical lessons usually begin with addressing students' immediate needs such as homework help and concept revision for tests and exams. My teaching approach expands beyond simply providing answers.
- I prioritize conceptual understanding, ensuring students grasp underlying principles that will benefit them in future courses and academic careers as well.
If a student struggles with a concept, I employ the following techniques to clarify it, including:
- Breaking down complex ideas into smaller parts and explaining them using examples and analogies.
- I employ multimodal learning techniques, by incorporating visual aids and interactive discussions.
- Finally, to ensure students have a good understanding of the concept, I test them by providing practice questions and reverse teaching methods.
What sets me apart is my commitment to not just teaching content, but fostering students' curiosity and developing a keen interest in their subjects.
In addition, I provide mentoring and guidance on:
- Learning strategies: My background in psychology, has equipped me with various learning strategies for the best retention and recall of information. I will employ those strategies while tutoring.
- Test-taking strategies: I also guide students on effective test-taking strategies, including how to approach challenging questions, manage time effectively, and cope with exam stress.
- Academic career: For students interested in pursuing a career in science, I am happy to share my experiences and insights to help guide their academic journeys.
My areas of expertise include tutoring high school physics, biology, chemistry, math, and calculus. I am also comfortable tutoring first and second-year undergraduate courses in cellular biology, animal physiology, introductory psychology, and neuroscience.
