About Maria Rosa
Dra B was born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic where she learned to read, write, speak, and understand academic and conversational Spanish. She holds a doctorate in Psychology and Language Science and practiced as a speech-language therapist for more than 20 years. She conducts research on beliefs or perceptions about good language use and works in the community with families who are bilingual, affirming their Spanish use and supporting their advocacy for linguistically sustaining education and access to language rights. She centers her knowledge of Spanish linguistics and evidence-based teaching strategies along with her experiences teaching non-dis/abled and dis/abled learners from prek-university level in her instruction.

I learned English at the age of 17 and have been able to apply my knowledge of this language in my career - I share this as an example that our language learning is never 'late.' No matter the age or prior experience, my goal is to co-build lessons that work for you! After 25+ years in instructional settings, my greatest joy is to learn from my co-learners. I center my knowledge of Spanish linguistics and evidence-based teaching strategies along with my experiences teaching nondis/abled and disabled/abled learners from prek-university level in my instruction. I use a balance of conversation and direct instruction to provide person-centered Spanish language learning that is evidence-based and works for you.
