About Chen Wai

I am a qualified Accountant. I have been teaching the following subjects for the last 10 years.

Extended Mathematics for the IGCSE examination
For both the IGCSE and A-Levels examinations
Accounting, Business Studies, and Economics

I use the past year's Q&As both to teach the syllabus and to prepare my students thoroughly for their examinations.

About the lesson

I use past year examination questions extensively to teach students.

In the initial of teaching English, I encourage reading aloud of articles and a lot of conversations between myself and the student that are prompted by the article in hand. In my experience, it is the fastest way for a student to acquire English. Correction of grammar mistakes and the teaching of grammar is done in the course of reading and conversations.

In the teaching of Mathematics, I emphasize the reading of numbers. This means learning what the formulae and numbers are saying. Knowing what the numbers are saying students can use their inherent logic to solve many Maths questions.

In the teaching of basic Accounting, students are taught that the double entries bookkeeping system is simply a set of rules for the recording of business transactions. To expedite the learning of the system students are frequently asked what they are recoding when doing a debit or credit entry. In addition, students are also taught to take a simple, layman's approach to the calculation and interpretation of the numbers in Accountancy. Another unique feature of my approach is that I frequently relate the Accounting numbers to the Income Statements, the Statement of Financial Position and, other financial statements. The objective is to teach students the overall objectives of Accounting, which are the measurement of profit or loss and the portrayal of the financial position of a business.

In the teaching of Business Studies and Economics, I teach students to apply the principles they have learnt to the business and economic problems they have to address. I show them how to write coherent and logical answers.
