About Hannah

As a former teacher and a current student of higher education, I understand the trials and pressures involved in study, especially in your formative years. My aim is to mitigate this as much as possible, and allow you to enjoy and appreciate the subject of English the way it is intended to be.

My goal is to really inspire a love for the subject through focusing on understanding and accessing the materials and texts you will be engaging with.

We in the field of English understand how daunting some of the language can be, but within this language can be found some true beauty and meaning - this is what I would be privileged to share with you and understanding this subsequently leads to higher academic achievement not just in this subject, but in all of them.

About the lesson

My lessons will consist of a shared Google doc folder into which we will distribute worksheets, completed work, further reading, and any other important or useful information. In this way, you will always have access to your resources for independent study!

A typical lesson would look like:
- A zoom call beginning with recall exercises from previous sessions.
- A discussion of your current topic at school/university.
- Some sort of main activity that is supported with a lesson and advice from me.
- A look forward to the work we will do in our next session.

The aim is to support you in your studies, therefore much of our work will be focused on pinpointing your main areas of difficulty and working through those at your pace.

My particular area of expertise lies in poetry and prose fiction; I understand that the works of Shakespeare can be difficult to understand at first glance, but it is my aim to make this language as accessible to you as possible, no matter your skill level.

I personally have three years of teaching experience, and have worked with years 7–13 (11-18 year olds), working in particular with AQA and Cambridge exam boards. I also have a lot of pastoral experience, and am trained in mental health first aid in order to best support your studies, as I completely understand how stress and private life can affect your academic performance. I am here for you as a person and your success matters to me greatly.
