About Carren
I am a qualified English teacher with a PGCE from the University of Bristol. Growing up between the UK and Hong Kong, I am passionate about languages and literature. I became a professional English teacher in the UK and taught KS3 and KS4 students for 4 years both online and in secondary schools. I am familiar with Edexcel and Cambridge mark schemes and assessment objectives.
As a speaker of Cantonese, I am uniquely equipped to help native Cantonese speakers transition smoothly into the UK GCSE curriculum.
I believe English and poetry should be for everyone and no one should feel anxious about language learning. I want students to share what they're passionate about and feel confident in using a language that may not be their own.

I will focus on helping you achieve your personal goal in mastering English. We will learn about lots of cultural terms and focus on using phonics to help build your reading skills. It doesn't matter how much English you can comprehend or produce. I will tailor the lessons to fill your learning gaps!
I break down complex literary texts and essay-writing frameworks into manageable, step-by-step steps. Whether you are struggling with unseen poetry, analysing Shakespeare, or mastering SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar) for your exams, I tailor every session to your target grade. We will work with mark schemes and learn about what the examiner is looking for.
