About Hugo

Hi, I'm Hugo, and languages have shaped my whole life. I hold a First-Class honors degree in French and German from the University of Edinburgh, studied abroad in Paris and Berlin, and I'm a CELTA-certified English teacher. So I bring both academic depth and proper teaching training to every lesson.

Over the past five years I've taught English to adults and teens from all walks of life, many of them building a new life in a new country. Alongside teaching, I've worked in international customer service across three languages and performed as a stand-up comedian, which means I'm just as comfortable explaining a tricky grammar point as I am putting a nervous student at ease.

Above all, I'm patient, reliable, and genuinely invested in your progress. Having learned two languages to fluency myself and lived in many countries, I understand the effort it takes and how rewarding it feels when it finally clicks. Whatever your level or goal, you'll find our lessons friendly, professional, and encouraging from the very first session.

About the lesson

My approach is simple: you learn a language by using it, so my lessons are conversation-led and built entirely around your goals, not a rigid textbook. Having learned French and German myself and lived in many countries. I teach the way I wished I'd been taught: patiently, with grammar explained clearly only when you need it, and always in a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere.

A typical lesson starts with a warm-up chat to get you talking, moves into the day's focus: maybe a real-life situation, a grammar point that's been tripping you up, or exam practice and finishes with feedback and a small, manageable goal for next time. I keep notes on your progress so every lesson builds on the last.

What sets me apart? I have spent five years as a stand-up comedian, so I know how to keep people engaged and how to make learning genuinely enjoyable. I believe you absorb far more when you're relaxed, laughing, and not afraid to make mistakes.

My lessons suit all levels from complete beginners to advanced speakers. We can refine your fluency and cover everyday conversation, business English, and exam preparation such as IELTS. Whether you're new to an English speaking country, preparing for a test, or simply want to feel more confident, we'll work at your pace. I look forward to meeting you!
