About AJ
Hi! I’m Alistair, a professional rugby player and a qualified teacher.
I grew up speaking both Afrikaans and English at home, so I know exactly how to help kids who find a second language tricky. Because I’m a pro athlete, I’m big on balance. I believe learning should be active and fun, not just sitting with a textbook.
I love working with children in the Intermediate Phase (Grades 4–7) because it’s such an important age. My goal is to be a mentor to your child, using my teaching degree to help them get better grades while building the confidence they need on and off the field.

As a qualified BEd Intermediate Phase teacher and a native bilingual speaker of both English and Afrikaans, I offer a unique "bilingual bridge" that makes learning Afrikaans natural and stress-free for Grade 4–7 students. My lessons go beyond basic conversation; I combine my professional teaching degree with a deep understanding of the CAPS curriculum to help English-speaking learners master tricky grammar rules and build genuine speaking confidence. Because both languages are my mother tongues, I can explain complex concepts using relatable English analogies, providing a structured, professional, and supportive environment where your child can finally "get" Afrikaans and excel in their assessments.
