About Saoirse
I'm a 24 year old Post Primary Teacher from Cork Ireland. I have a degree in BA Arts, Advanced Languages and Global Communications and a Professional Masters in Education with Irish and German being my subjects. I'm also a singer/songwriter and guitarist with a passion for music. My main aim as a teacher is to pass on my passion for my languages and their cultures and making the language learning journey a fun yet educational one. Techniques and Teaching Methodology: Communicative Approach
My teaching methodology is firmly grounded in the Communicative Approach, which emphasizes interaction and practical communication skills. This approach is designed to help students use the language effectively and appropriately in real-life situations. Here’s how I incorporate the Communicative Approach into my lessons:
Interactive Activities: Lessons are filled with activities that encourage student participation and real-time communication. These include role-plays, discussions, and problem-solving tasks that mirror real-world scenarios.
Authentic Materials: I use a variety of authentic materials such as newspapers, videos, and audio recordings to expose students to the language as it is used by native speakers. This helps them develop listening and comprehension skills.
Student-Centered Learning: Each lesson is tailored to the needs and interests of the students. I encourage students to speak as much as possible and provide plenty of opportunities for them to practice speaking in a supportive environment.
Feedback and Correction: I provide constructive feedback and correct errors in a way that encourages learning and improvement. This helps students understand their mistakes and learn from them without feeling discouraged.
Integration of Skills: I ensure that lessons integrate all four language skills – speaking, listening, reading, and writing – to provide a well-rounded learning experience.
Typical Length of a Lesson: 1 Hour
Each lesson is structured to last for one hour. This duration is optimal for maintaining student engagement and concentration while allowing enough time to cover the lesson objectives effectively.
