About Emma
Hi! Thanks for taking a look at my profile - I hope I can help you navigate the complicated English curriculum and succeed in your exams!
For the past 3 years, I taught at a high school in Sheffield. During my 2 years in an exclusively English classroom, I taught all year groups (Y7-Y11) and all abilities (from top to bottom sets). My KS4 (Y9-Y11) classes were particularly successful in reaching or bettering their initial GCSE targets with my support and guidance. I am passionate about helping my students to succeed in their English GCSEs and I find it incredibly rewarding to see my students fulfil their potential and progress in their abilities. The AQA exam papers are definitely challenging, but can easily be made accessible to students once they understand what the markers want to see!
My undergraduate degree was in English Literature at Edinburgh University and I also have a masters in Social Policy and International Development from LSE. As such, I am very comfortable tutoring higher ability students who are looking to study English in college or university.
Also, before getting my PGCE qualification, I gained teaching experience from 2 years of TEFL teaching abroad, so I am also happy to tutor EAL students or those with a lower ability who may be struggling with the English exam structure.

I would like to help students who are looking to improve their GCSE/KS4 English or KS3 English attainment, or even their basic English literacy. My lessons are tailored to be engaging to the student and (having a detailed understanding of what the exam board wants to see) I take a structured, step-by-step and accessible approach to the pesky AQA English exam questions!
My training as a Secondary English Teacher was completed with Teach First, an organisation which places high-achieving graduates into struggling schools across the UK. I taught as a full time English Secondary Teacher for the past 2/3 years - in this role, I have planned and delivered English lessons to a range of students (covering a range of abilities) in KS3 and KS4. I am able to currently offer a lower rate than other qualified teachers because I am working remotely from abroad.
