About Laura

I began studying piano at the age of 4 and fell in love with music as a whole! I am now a qualified secondary school music teacher, with 8 years' experience as a piano and music theory teacher. I play professionally and also compose - the orchestra and film scores are my current obsessions! I have a diploma in music performance as well as my grade 8 in piano and music theory with the Royal Irish Academy of Music. I also attended the 'Kodaly International Summer Course: Active Music Making' under a scholarship in 2023, which was fantastic! Teaching is my absolute passion, and seeing my students uncover the secrets of music theory and gain confidence in themselves is what gives me a sense of purpose. I hope that I can help you on your journey through these tough exams, and also have fun while doing so!!

About the lesson

I am a qualified secondary school music teacher with 8 years' experience teaching music theory and piano. My teaching style is focused on a 'student-centered' approach! The lessons are all about the students and, more importantly, having fun while learning! I cater my grinds to each individual student, depending on their goals for the year. We take it at a pace that is comfortable for the student, and I adapt to their individual learning methods! I am very flexible and have extensive experience working with different individual students. We could focus on one particular aspect of the music exams, or look at the whole picture! There are lots of different sections to the music exam, but as you know, they are all connected by music theory, and that is why it is crucial to be really confident with the basics - so this is where we begin on our journey. There is no judgment or expectations from me; I meet my students where they're at and guide them to be the best musicians they can be! :) I recommend 1 hour of grinds per week to see progress; however, I can offer 2 sessions per week for those who want a more intensive course.

Laura would always tailor the lesson to your level and what you know. It was always fun and got to try out some songs that I wanted to learn and she was always happy to do so. Classes are all online. 1-hour sessions are €30 flat rate. Booking a package gives you a €10 discount. There is the option of practical preparation for a small additional fee - I will work with you and your instrument(s) and give you constructive feedback and goals to work towards (this option includes preparing for the aural part of the practical exam, as well as the music technology section if you have chosen that).
