About Tristan

I am a qualified maths and ICT teacher with over 10 years classroom experience in UK and international schools. I am also an examiner for Cambridge Assessment and Pearson Edexcel. I have taught students of all abilities, and a range of curricula including A level, IB, GCSE and KS3. My main subject is maths but I also teach ICT.

About the lesson

I try to use a range of resources ranging from pencil and paper to interactive material such as Geogebra. I have access to a tablet for use with the online whiteboard and an HD document camera for demonstrations using pen and paper. Whilst there are obvious benefits to using the online whiteboard, for explanations of some mathematical concepts, I find that a document camera is better. It means I can use pen and paper (or physical whiteboard) so any writing/diagrams are clearer and the student sees me using physical mathematical tools (such as compasses) rather than virtual ones. With maths in particular, it is important to practise what you have learnt on a regular basis so as not to forget it when you learn a new concept. However, it is also important not to be overworked or to let other subjects slip. I am happy to provide my students with an exercise a day to complete between tuition sessions. These exercises are optional and last no more than 15 minutes per day... although if you want more, I can provide that.
