About Nathan

I am a friendly, approachable young man who has a passion for all things that make a positive change, especially in young lives.

I have been lucky enough to have many opportunities to work with a variety of children/students from different backgrounds and ages to teach, work and play along with.

My love for teaching first came when I was a Football Coach at Skillwise Sports, where I taught sessions to children about the sport I love. I then began to assist teaching in a primary school, where my love for teaching further grew, as I worked in a year one classroom and built a friendly relationship with the children.

I found that English was a subject that came very naturally to me. I enjoyed studying it at GCSE and A Level and went on to gain my degree in English Language and Literature at Salford University.

During my studies, I took the opportunity to work abroad, and I was lucky enough to teach English as a foreign language in Sri Lanka as well as participate in cricket matches with the children. This was an extremely rewarding experience as the children were friendly and appreciative of the teaching, as they had extremely limited opportunities to learn.

After I finished my English degree, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in teaching, so I went to Edge Hill University to gain a PGCE in Early Years Education.

Towards the end of my degree, I was lucky enough to have my first son. This has given me a new appreciation for early years and the development matters model as I can track and help my own son's development. I love seeing him growing, learning and playing in the world around him. Very recently I have just welcomed my second son into the world, being a Dad is such an amazing experience.

I am now currently at a SEN (special educational needs) and behavioural secondary school where I am teaching foundation stage Maths GCSE/Functional Skills and I love my job!

I now look forward to my next adventure, becoming a tutor to some special students who I can help become better equipped with subject knowledge and who can help me to continuously better myself.

About the lesson

I aim to make my sessions as fun as possible! I ensure that I assess where the pupil is in their education and then use their strengths as a way to better their weaknesses. Using things such as games, quizzes and the learner's interest is a good way to get them to retain the knowledge!
