About Ricardo

My name is Ricardo, and I graduated with a B.A. in Biology back in 2020. I am currently on the path to veterinary school, hoping to someday fully commit my life to learning about animals and supporting the human-pet relationships that are so beneficial to people all over the world.

I have always loved working with children. I've worked with many age groups in a variety of settings, including 6-8 year olds at the Oasis Day Camp, 11-14 year olds at the Aim High academic summer institution, and 15-18 year olds as an assistant basketball coach. My hope is that I can teach students all of the methods of learning that have worked best for me, but I also acknowledge there are lots of new methods that I can learn from minds looking at material for the first time. I am excited to see what we can accomplish together!

About the lesson

With every new student, I will make sure they acknowledge me as someone reliable to listen to. Teaching is a two-way street, so I acknowledge that I will need to earn your child's respect as a person so they can then respect my teaching.

For the lesson, I will start off by gauging the students understanding based off what they believe to be their proficiency level, as well as what I believe it to be after introducing some general concepts. Upon determining this, I will start where I believe the student is most comfortable and we will work our way upwards. My lessons will generally start off with the basic, numbers on paper style teaching, with an eventual shift into example problems that we will work on independently or together if needed. We will go over the answers and our work together. After finishing these problems, I will finish off with real world applications of the concepts that we went over during our lesson. Being able to relate classroom concepts to the real world around us was one of the best ways I learned as a student, and I believe it to be one of the most efficient methods of teaching.

My lessons are intended for elementary and middle school math students, but I welcome all ages. I acknowledge the understanding level of every student is different, so I will refresh my understanding of concepts in preparation for the needs of each individual lesson. I have a strong background in all levels of mathematics up to (and including) Calculus II.
