About Elise
Having worked as a private flute and music tutor since Spring 2019, I have worked with both young and adult learners, ranging from beginner to advanced ability, and I am experienced teaching in-person and online. I have been studying the flute for over 13 years, and completed my undergraduate degree from the University of Hull in 2018, achieving a first-class with honours. After completing my studies, I was awarded the 'Andrew Brown Award' for achieving the highest mark in the institution for that year. Alongside this, in 2019 I was the second prize winner for the British Flute Society's Annual Flute Competition. Additionally, I regularly write reviews for the British Flute Society's journal, 'PAN', with new issues released three times a year. Although I do not have many years of experience like others, 100% of my students that have been entered into exams under my guidance have achieved Distinctions.

My teaching methodology is listening and developing with the student, rather than a 'right or wrong' approach. I believe that each student is different, and therefore, the approach to working with them should vary too. I am available to help students complete graded exams, alongside provide GCSE and A-Level help. Although I believe exams to be a good learning ground, they are not suitable for everyone, and I enjoy working with students who would like to learn simply for a hobby! It is important to me that students are given the tools to improve, that way, in the future they can overcome hurdles on their own and achieve a greater sense of accomplishment. Therefore, I supply my students with the appropriate books to purchase in order to enhance their own personal development, alongside opening discussions about the music so that they can learn to think and discover the music on their own.
