About Matt
Hi, I’m Matt — a drum tutor based in Brighton & Hove with over 25 years of experience. Drumming has shaped my life. It’s more than just rhythm and technique—it’s dance, therapy, creativity, and self-expression! I teach simply because picking up the sticks was the best decision I ever made, and I want to give budding drummers the best possible start in this truly life-changing passion. My lessons are friendly, flexible, and tailored to your pace, goals, and musical tastes. I work with kids, teens, and adults of all levels, offering in-person, home visit and online options. I am fully DBS checked. I want my students to leave my lessons feeling confident, inspired and equipped to continue exploring outside of the studio until we meet again. My lessons are fully tailored to the students' goals, pace, abilities and tastes. I help my students discover, explore and nurture their own unique style of self-expression, whilst maintaining focus on fundamentals, musicality and (most importantly) the sheer unbridled joy of drumming! My lessons are for complete beginners picking up the drums for the first time, all the way to experienced players looking to level up existing skills. I also offer a free first taster lesson so you/your child can get a feel for me and my lessons before you commit. I have been playing the drums for 25+ years, the past 20 of which I have been actively gigging/recording/writing with several bands across multiple genres, and teaching independently as a private tutor. All ages are more than welcome!
