About Jonathan

Hello! I'm Jonathan, and I studied at the Royal Academy of Music for 5 years, gaining a first class Bachelor's degree, and a distinction in my Masters. I spend most of my time performing as a freelance timpanist and percussionist with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Opera North and BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and also with contemporary music groups such as the Colin Currie Group. With the rest of my time, I love teaching music in various disciplines, and I provide a convenient, professional and informative online tuition service. Teaching is so fulfilling for me, and people of all abilities and ages are very welcome. If you have any questions, please get in touch and we'll have a discussion about possible lessons.

About the lesson

I teach music theory at all levels, including beginners, tutoring for ABRSM grades 1-8, GCSE and A Level, and also teach casual students just looking to learn something new about music of all genres. I have been teaching for over 4 years, and hold a BMus and an MA from the Royal Academy of Music. For me, lessons should be dictated by the student - whatever you want to learn, I will help you to achieve, whether that's preparing for a big exam or concert, or just some casual learning in your spare time. As a professional percussionist, I can also help you with your drumming technique, if you're looking for some coaching on your stick technique or have some issues with posture or performance anxiety. Typically the best results are achieved from 1 hour lessons, but this can be negotiated in certain circumstances.
