About Samiya

Hello, I’m Samiya, a professional artist and experienced art educator with an MA in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art. I have taught at Central Saint Martins and other University of the Arts London colleges, as well as the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford.

My own practice includes drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and mixed media, and I have exhibited my work nationally and internationally.

I enjoy working with students at all stages — from complete beginners who want to build confidence, to GCSE/A-Level students and those preparing portfolios for Foundation, BA or other art-school applications.

As a tutor, I’m encouraging, approachable and constructive. I tailor my teaching to each student rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. I can help you strengthen technical skills, develop ideas, experiment with materials and, importantly, build confidence in your own creative decisions.

I have particular experience supporting students with art-school portfolios, sketchbook development, idea generation and portfolio selection, helping them present work that feels individual rather than formulaic.

Whether you want to learn for enjoyment, improve your drawing or painting, or prepare for your next stage in art education, I’ll work with you to create a clear and achievable plan.

About the lesson

My lessons are practical, supportive and tailored to your individual goals.

For drawing and painting lessons, I demonstrate techniques, work alongside you and give clear, constructive feedback while encouraging you to develop your own style rather than simply copy mine.

Depending on what you want to achieve, we can work on observational drawing, painting techniques, composition, colour, experimenting with materials, developing ideas, sketchbooks and building confidence in your creative decision-making.

I also specialise in art-school and portfolio preparation. I can help with developing project ideas, strengthening sketchbooks, selecting work, identifying gaps in a portfolio and presenting your work clearly for Foundation, BA and other art-school applications.

Beginners are very welcome — you do not need any previous experience. For more advanced students, lessons can focus on developing a stronger individual practice and preparing for the next stage of your art education.

Lessons are available online and face-to-face and are planned around what you want to achieve.

Perfect! Samiya has been teaching my son private one-to-one art lessons after school, and we have been really impressed with her approach and teaching style.

She plans engaging and varied lessons that have helped him explore different artistic techniques and mediums. So far, they’ve worked on still life drawing, sculpture, and recreating a scene from Diary of a Wimpy Kid using watercolours. Each project has been enjoyable while also helping to build his confidence, creativity, and technical skills.

Samiya is patient, encouraging, and has a wonderful way of making each lesson both fun and educational. My son always looks forward to his sessions and is proud of the artwork he creates. It’s been lovely to see his enthusiasm for art grow under her guidance.

The free 30-minute first session is an introductory consultation where we can discuss your goals, look at your current work or portfolio, and identify the areas you would like to develop.

Discounted lesson packs are available for students who would like ongoing tuition. Portfolio students are welcome to send or bring examples of their work to discuss.
