About Molly

I’m a passionate pianist and experienced music teacher, with a genuine love of music and of sharing that passion with others. I have taught classroom music in both Scotland and London, including at an Ofsted Outstanding school, and have experience working with students of a wide range of ages, abilities and learning needs. My teaching is engaging, supportive and appropriately challenging, with lessons adapted to suit each individual student and their goals.

I believe that learning piano should be about much more than simply learning to play the notes on the page. Alongside learning pieces that you actually want to play, we’ll gradually develop your understanding of music theory, technique, rhythm, harmony and musical expression. Theory will be introduced naturally and at an easy-to-digest pace, always relating it back to what you are playing, so that it feels useful rather than like a separate subject. My aim is to help you develop a comprehensive understanding of the piano and music as a language, giving you the knowledge and confidence to eventually learn, understand and explore music independently.

I enjoy music of all genres and I’m very happy to work with whatever inspires you — whether that’s classical music, pop, film and TV soundtracks, musical theatre, jazz or something completely different. If there’s a particular song you want to learn but it doesn’t have commercially available sheet music, I can also create my own arrangement for you. I want lessons to feel personal and relevant to you, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

I have a professional teaching set-up at my home in Glasgow’s Southside for in-person lessons, and I also offer online lessons. My teaching style is relaxed, encouraging and friendly, while still giving you the structure and guidance you need to progress. Whether you’re picking up the piano for the first time, returning after a break, or looking to develop your existing skills, my aim is to help you become a confident, capable and independent musician — and, most importantly, to enjoy making music along the way.

About the lesson

Lessons will be structured around developing you as a well-rounded, confident and independent musician. We’ll explore a range of core piano skills organically, with the balance of each lesson shaped around your individual needs, interests and goals.

I have experience teaching students from young children through to adults, across a wide range of ages, abilities and levels of experience, including students with additional support needs. This allows me to adapt my approach, pace and teaching methods to ensure that lessons are accessible, supportive and appropriately challenging for each individual.

Depending on your level and what you want to achieve, this might include:
- Reading and understanding sheet music
- Piano technique and technical development
- Musical expression, phrasing and interpretation
- Sight-reading and playing with greater fluency
- Scales, chords and an understanding of harmony
- Improvisation and developing your own musical ideas
- Playing and arranging music across different genres
- Accompaniment skills and playing with other musicians
- Developing rhythm, coordination and musical confidence

Rather than working through a rigid syllabus, these skills will be developed naturally through the music you are learning. For example, a new piece might provide an opportunity to work on a particular technical skill, introduce a new chord or scale, develop your sight-reading, or explore how to create more expression in your playing.

Lessons will have a clear structure, with each week building on the skills developed previously while introducing a new challenge or focusing on a particular aspect of your playing. This provides a sense of progression while allowing us to adapt the lessons as you develop.

The aim is not simply to teach you how to play individual pieces, but to give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to become an individual musician — someone who can read, understand, interpret and eventually explore music independently.
