About Keisha

The competitive music community sets high expectations and favours long-term commitment, which drive me to give it my all. As a pianist, I have volunteered 14 years to the Classical music community in Victoria by sharing my musical knowledge with young learners, supporting events, performing, and competing. My love of music and my work ethic led me to complete all my Theory and History ARCT exams despite the pressures of an IB Diploma program. I developed alongside other musicians through the Collegium program, as well as with university teachers and at Domaine Forget summer program in Quebec. Even the pandemic was unable to slow us down. I took a positive outlook on everything going online, viewing this as an opportunity to showcase how youth are taking up classical music across the world. I dedicated hours to the project of uploading recordings of my performances to my YouTube channel and to submit to online competitions. As a result, anyone in quarantine could listen to my music, and I recently won first place in the Pacific Rim International Music Festival in the National Round. This international mindedness regarding inspired me to strengthen relationships with the music community abroad, demonstrated by my performing at Carnegie Hall in New York and receiving the Cross-border Summer Scholarship Award from the Council for Canadian American Relations, which supports the Curtis Institute of Music summer program.
Finally, I have thought of innovational ways to included people facing financial challenges in the classical music community. In my free time, I teach piano lessons for all ages interested in a music career, or just for fun. I have also repaired, collected, and donated guitars to underprivileged children with the “Gift of Music.” I hope the long term impact of my actions have inspired other youth to share their music in the same way my professors from the Victoria Conservatory of Music inspired me.

About the lesson

I give out lessons to all ages interested in learning piano: pop songs for fun to more complex classical music pieces. My goal is to encourage my students to reach their goals and bring out their potential while enjoying the music they play.
