About Ananya
I’ve been a tutor for over six years, working with students ages 4–17 across all subjects, with a focus on early childhood education (K–3) and middle and high school mathematics. I am currently working as a teaching assistant in UNC’s mathematics department. Additionally, for the past four years, I’ve run a math program specifically designed to prepare students for advanced placement in middle and high school. Every student who has completed the program has successfully placed into advanced math classes.
I’ve worked with students with a wide range of learning styles, including neurodiverse students and students who hadn’t yet met the expectations typically set for their grade level. In many cases, students who initially struggled to access the material were, within six months, performing above grade level or qualifying for advanced programs.
I don’t believe math ability is fixed. I believe most students struggle because the material hasn’t been presented in a way that works for them yet.

My lessons are built around identifying what isn’t clicking and fixing that directly. I focus on clear explanations, strong foundations, and making sure students actually understand the material rather than memorizing steps. I look at where students’ understanding breaks down and address it systematically. Once that gap is filled, progress tends to happen quickly.
Lessons are structured but flexible, and adapt to the student’s pace and learning style. I emphasize:
• Understanding concepts, not just procedures
• Building confidence through mastery
• Adjusting methods for different learners
• Creating an environment where questions are expected, not avoided
The goal isn’t just better grades or placement, though those often follow, but helping students feel capable engaging with math and school more broadly.
