About Laura

My background:

I’m Laura Teasdale, a bespoke tailor and an experienced teacher based in Balham, South London.

I’ve worked on Savile Row, and now teach on a one-to-one basis from my home studio and on Zoom.

I’ve completed a fashion design degree at Kingston University graduating in 2013.

Since then I’ve completed a specialist bespoke tailoring course at Newham College, which led me to working on Savile Row at Chittleborough And Morgan, where I worked for a period of five years. Now I take on bespoke tailoring commissions and teach from my home studio. I can teach you both on zoom and in person.

I’m here to make your life easier, I can share with you what I’ve learnt, how to apply and get through a fashion design BA at university, how to approach final collection and graduation. What its like working for a luxury heritage company on Savile Row and how I approach working for myself. Lessons are supportive and are personalised to your needs.

About the lesson

The sessions:

In your first session we will have a relaxed chat about your goals, your current skill level and what you want to get out of the sessions. If you have examples/samples of your work, please do bring them along, so we can discuss where you’re at.

From there I will develop a plan for the sessions and we will get started on your projects.

The sessions of relaxed, organic, with lots of Q&A and feedback given as required. At the end of each session, we will discuss your progress and your next steps.

As well as how you can move your work forward in your own time.

Lesson length:

Sessions are normally three hours long, so you can make good progress. However, as this is a one-to-one session, lessons can vary to meet your needs. Lessons are open to all levels; from GCSE, BTEC, A-level, degree, graduates and those just looking to enjoy bespoke tailoring and fashion as a hobby!

How I can help you;

I can offer technical support on how to construct garments. In particular I can teach bespoke tailoring techniques. I can guide you through how to make up a bespoke tailored jacket, using Savile Row methods.

We can strengthen your tailoring, making and pattern cutting skills, creating samples of techniques, for example pocket samples.

Pattern cutting support, how to draft patterns and stylise them. How to take patterns through to samples.

How to develop collections, research methods, drawing tips, how to develop a collection/brand, portfolio tips for entry into university or for completing a final collection and how to market and prepare yourself for university application and graduation.
