About Kristen
I'm a professional artist and educator with a BFA from SCAD and over a decade of experience teaching drawing, painting, and photography. I’ve worked with students of all ages in classroom, workshops, and private settings—from elementary students to adult beginners, as well as advanced students preparing art portfolios for art school. My approach is thoughtful, encouraging, and tailored to each learner’s needs. I’ve taught in both traditional and STEM-based environments, allowing me to blend creativity with technical skill in a way that’s accessible and inspiring. I’m committed to creating a safe, inclusive learning space where every student can grow as an artist and thinker.

In my lessons, I create a welcoming space where students feel confident exploring their creativity—whether they're beginners or preparing for college-level art portfolios.
A typical session includes a short demo, guided practice, and time for independent exploration, tailored to each student's pace and goals. I emphasize progress over perfection, using scaffolded instruction, personal feedback, and cross-disciplinary connections (like art history, science, and culture) to enrich learning. My background in photography and experience at a STEM school help me bridge technical and expressive approaches to art.
I support middle school through adult learners, including those developing foundational skills, rediscovering their creativity, or building strong portfolios. What sets me apart is my focus on inclusion, representation, and helping students see the value of their voice through art.
