About Sanvi

As a senior in high school, I have had many opportunities to grow and explore my interest in working with children. I have worked at Kumon for over three years, where my main job is to tutor young children on basic math and reading skills. I also work with children of high-level math occasionally. Additionally, I have been able to incorporate my love for children with my passion for Indian Classical Dance, by serving as an assistant teacher, and also launching a beginner workshop that I will be teaching this summer. I have also served as an assistant teacher for my temple classes, where I have strived hard to grow students' interest in our religion by taking detailed class notes and creating fun games and experiences for children. Finally, through my role as my high school's Volunteer Club Board Member, I have been able to stretch my bandwidth and work with children in over 12 schools across my large district, at different events and after-school learning programs.

About the lesson

I love working hands-on with kids, and usually teach through doing different variations of problems related to a certain concept to grow the student's knowledge on the idea. A typical lesson plan for my classes would include a 5-10 minute recap on the previous lesson, including going over any homework, teaching any new material in the current lesson through several example problems, and giving the student time to do problems on their own while I watch to understand their process and where they might be going wrong. I would end with another recap of the lesson, answer any specific questions, and assign light homework to drill in the lesson. I believe I am set apart as a tutor due to my experience in working with children of varying ages, from 4 years to my 18-year-old peers. My lessons are targeted towards young toddlers up till 12th graders.
