About Tessa

I am patient, compassionate, funny, and put students at ease by connecting with them on a personal level by talking about their days, cracking jokes, and asking about their interests outside of school. I have been tutoring since I was a senior in high school. I have a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in screenwriting. I have also worked as a script consultant to help working screenwriters with notes, shaping their script, and reading each draft. I will bring these same skills to students no matter what their age.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are based on each student's particular needs. I assess where they need the most help and craft my lessons around their needs. In general, a typical lesson plan depends on the subject and what the goals of the student are. Sometimes it's simply to help with homework and assignments given by their teachers. I have also prepared full lessons and hands-on activities for students, including as a year-long private tutor for an 8th grader who was homeschooled for one year. If the student needs help with essay writing. I start by helping them craft a thesis and subsequent outline before having them write the first draft on their own after which, I will help them to strengthen their essay.

What sets me apart as a tutor is that I encourage students to find their own creative confidence rather than micro-managing their lessons and assignments. I let the student take the lead on brainstorming ideas and help guide them through the task at hand.

I have worked with students from 7th grade all the way up to college.
