About Phil
I am a software developer with more than 20 years of programming experience. My expertise includes a wide range of computer languages such as Javascript, PHP, Python, Ruby, SQL, Java, C#, C++, and C. I have taught and mentored software developers working in a number of industries. My focus in the last few years has been on web frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Node.js, and Django. Sharing the joy of programming has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey into the wonderful world of information technology. Programming is a team effort and together we can build amazing solutions that help and empower us.

Computer languages are similar to human languages in a number of ways. As we practice a language with a friendly and supportive expert guide, the language muscles develop, much like physical training at the gym.
* All lessons revolve around fun and practical programming exercises.
* Each set of exercises we work on together is tailored to your specific needs in terms of your goals, styles and pace of learning, and desired level of complexity.
* Depending on your preferences, we generally start with simple exercises and build up gradually to more complex exercises.
* We give ourselves the time and space we need to work through each exercise.
* The most important role for the teacher is to support and assist you as soon as and whenever an obstacle arises during the course of completing an exercise.
* With empathetic support from the teacher, we work through exercises together and see how obstacles become welcomed opportunities for great learning.
* Learning can and should be fun, and the motto is: if it’s not fun, it’s not fair .
