About Ren
My name is Ren, I'm offering what I've learned so far from high school and University because I've been passionate about languages since I was a kid, and because there's a theory that explaining difficult things to other people helps you understand it better yourself. As a uni student, I can't have enough of that. I would also love for other people to have access to this knowledge I didn't have before University and find the passion I have. I've taken French in high school since Year 9 through to Year 13, and have done second year level French in my first year of University. While I don't have DELF qualifications yet, French has been one of my strong suits and I've been operating at CEFR B1. I have consistently been given confidence through class and NCEA endorsements in my pronunciation specifically, and have absorbed grammatical knowledge quickly, and have been able to converse in French in France with little trouble. Having degrees of understanding of Tagalog and Japanese in addition to this has helped me learn about how languages work quickly. I've also been strong with English, history, classics and art history in high school and have hammered down essay writing strategies that my peers don't always employ anymore and struggle with as a result. As a University student, I hold myself to high expectations of academic rigor and integrity whilst also operating with complex linguistic and anthropological concepts to make my thought processes more analytical yet empathetic and culturally and situationally aware. If you would like me to help you or someone you know with French or English, I will also uphold high standards of performance and achievement while also making what I tutor more accessible and digestible for non-uni students. Regardless of if it's English essay writing or helping you remember French vocabulary or conjugations before a big test.

As a linguistics and anthropology double major, I'm honing my analytical skills insofar as trying to explain complex ideas to other people not familiar with linguistic concepts. This would be my first time tutoring, but it would be a learning experience for both me and whoever I tutor. My anthropology education requires me to approach learning about people and how they think and learn from an empathetic but situationally and culturally aware approach. If you choose me to mentor French or English, you will be getting First and Second Year University level phonological, grammatical and linguistic knowledge condensed to fit in with what you're studying and made approachable, and if you're interested in French, I hope to speed your French knowledge up to at least B1.
