About Luis

The son of Spanish immigrants, I grew up without speaking the language. I've since come to appreciate that this is one of the most desirable languages to learn, having travelled for over a year in Latin America, and now relocating myself to Spain, Spanish provides endless opportunities for work, travel, friendships and deep cultural connections. It is a logical, extremely consistent and beautiful language that I want to share with others.

My 8-year long journey learning the language has brought me closer to my roots, and is a big part of the reason that I have been able to move to Spain. As such, I have a deep understanding of the blood, sweat and tears that goes into learning a language from scratch. I'm passionate about language learning and providing others with the incredible experience of being able to communicate with others in a language other than your native tongue!

About the lesson

Ever heard someone with excellent Spanish speaking with a horrible gringo accent? Ever feel like minutes pass as you try and slowly conjugate verbs and assemble sentences in your head only for the person you're speaking with to switch to English?

¡Buenas! My name is Luis and I'm here to provide you with practical, down to earth and relaxed Spanish lessons. Together we will focus on the things that many students of Spanish lack - proper pronunciation, an emphasis on speaking and comprehension, and avoiding the 'translation trap' (that is, trying to convert words and sentences directly from English to Spanish!).

From day one, lessons will be conducted *in Spanish* (except where English clarifications are necessary). This may seem overwhelming at first, but this technique is used all around the world to quickly and effectively train students' ears (and brains) to picking up the language in context! From the very first lesson you will also be speaking, listening, writing and reading. I strongly believe that all four aspects of language are key to grasping its intricacies, and help you to build a deeper understanding of Spanish!

I can also provide homework including worksheets and listening exercises.
