About Pavitra

Hi! I am a 24 year old graduate student at the Faculty of Science at the University of Victoria. I have been passionate about the arts since 2015 when I bought my first charcoal pencil set. I specialize in watercolor portraits and brush calligraphy. I believe that no matter your interest, a strong foundation in techniques, a desire to learn and good practice is what makes a good artist. And I hope with my lessons, you can soon be making beautiful art pieces in no time! I will guide you through the process in a fairly structured manner, allowing time and space for creativity, of course! I hope you are able to use my lessons to develop your own unique style in art and no longer be intimidated by complex art-work!

About the lesson

My curiosity for the arts inspired me to learn through hundreds of online resources over the last 7-8 years. I did not have much guidance through my learning process but I hope to share my knowledge with you so that your journey is simpler. And soon you will have frame-worthy art work in no time!
I highly recommend investing in some good quality beginner supplies (the names which I will provide before the first class).
The classes will cover how to get proportions right in a sketch and how to understand and deconstruct shadow, texture and light when painting/sketching. Calligraphy classes will cover basic calligraphy exercises and how to make beautiful flourishes to your work! With more advanced lessons, I will also show you how to use digital tools to simplify the process of creating art!
I don't believe that art has any age limits, but I would say young children who can write a little bit (probably age 6 and upwards) is a good point to start at!
