About Seren
I am 26 years old, with two children of my own with additional needs. I understand the importance of education and the need to keep it fun and relaxed while still making progress towards your goals. I have an undergraduate degree as well as a master's, with a desire to move into PhD learning in the future. I work in a Special Educational Needs Academy, supporting young people with PMLD, SLD and MLD. The thing I love most about my job is celebrating achievements with my students, no matter how small they may seem.

Initially I will have a conversation with the parent or carer to assess the need of the young person, to ensure that I am able to meet this need. This will be a free discussion, covering communication aids, motivators, triggers, SEMH challenges, as well as academic goals. The tutoring sessions with the young person may include a supervising adult if needed (I know that an online session may be challenging otherwise for a child with SEND needs!). Each session will be personalised using a child's interests, play preferences and communication needs (I am qualified in Signalong and experienced in using symbols to support understanding). I use a mixture of fun games, written tasks (if appropriate), brain breaks and practical activities to teach, and assess progress towards specific learning goals after each session to track progress. Though the learning level of these sessions will typically match with the Key Stage 1 or 2 curricula, I am aware that students working towards these goals may be aged up to 18. I look forward to working with all my students, no matter the age.
