About Jamie

I am a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of York (UK), the Chair of the Philosophy Department's Education Committee, and the Dean of Students within their School of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.

I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HE QTS) and have achieved SEG Level 2 in Counselling Skills and SEG Level 3 in Counselling Theory. I have worked as volunteer for Samaritans.

I have published articles on ethics, metaethics, normative theory, and political theory in some of the world's leading academic journals.

I have taught at a number of universities since 2006 and have experience of teaching A Level Philosophy and Religious Studies in schools (2014-15) and as a private tutor for the past two years with excellent results. I can tailor my teaching according to ability and goals, and also have experience of working with neurodiverse students.

I am looking to work with all motivated A Level students across all exam boards and HE learners who want to improve their understanding, grades, exam and writing techniques.

About the lesson

I take a conversational and relaxed approach to teaching, talking students through complex materials, helping them forge a deeper understanding of the ideas they learn in school to achieve a higher level of understanding that is directly applicable to examination success.
