About Tomás
HOLA! I’m Tomás, a native Spanish speaker from Argentina and Spanish and English language teacher with over 10 years of experience helping students speak, read, and write with confidence.
I hold a CELTA (Cambridge Certificate for Teaching English to Adults), a Bachelor of Translation (Spanish–English, University of La Plata, Argentina), and I am a NAATI-accredited interpreter.
I specialize in literature-based lessons for intermediate and advanced learners, using short stories to inspire discussion, critical thinking, and practical language use. Students read the story before class, so we can focus on vocabulary, style, cultural context, and engaging conversation.

My lessons are designed for intermediate and advanced learners of Spanish who want to practice regularly, improve their skills, and enjoy learning in a meaningful way.
I use a literature-based approach, focusing on short stories from classic and contemporary authors. This method allows students to engage with real language, explore cultural context, and practise expressing themselves naturally.
Spanish authors we explore include: Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortázar, Roberto Bolaño, Silvina Ocampo, Juan Rulfo, and more.
Before each lesson, students read the story, so class time is fully dedicated to:
• Discussing and analysing the text — vocabulary, expressions, style, and cultural context
• Engaging in thoughtful conversation about the story’s themes and ideas
• Practising writing through short tasks inspired by the story, improving grammar, expression, and style
This approach is ideal for learners who want to develop their Spanish through meaningful discussion, critical thinking, and literature, rather than through memorisation or repetitive exercises.
