About Laura

I am a singer-songwriter and guitarist from north Wales currently living in Nottingham

I have studied both a-level music and drama and have gigged across the country at festivals and more. I am an ex stagecoach drama teacher who has since started my own Performing Arts Academy to bring the arts to people of all ages and abilities across the country! This academy has been running for over a year now and is one of my proudest achievements. l have a certified DBS and have been playing guitar for around 12 year, and singing as long as I can remember. I've been teaching music and drama for around 2 years now.

I love working with kids and teaching them new skills and also have experience teaching adults music as well, and will take on any age and ability!

About the lesson

My performing arts academy is called the Wilson Performing Arts Academy, and we provide tailored 1 to 1 lessons to people of all ages and abilities across the UK and Ireland.

I like to get to know the student in order to tailor the lessons to their way of learning, as I understand everybody learns differently and hence will cater methods of teaching towards the student.

For guitar, I can assure is that the reading of tab guitar music and fingerpicking will be taught first, in order to ensure good practice and pave the way for expansion with learning chords in the future, my aim is to teach a student to be a well rounded guitarist, not just somebody who can strum a few chords.
If it is singing you're interested in, then the same applies in terms of my liking to get to know a student, what they want, and what they need etc... I will get to know your voice, and through doing this also help you to get to know yours. Fundamentals such as breathing and technique to ensure you don't hurt your voice are always things I will first make sure you understand. I will then continue to work with you on your vocal technique and breathing technique through songs and music that you enjoy and are interested in, tailoring lessons to you.

Exams? You can be taken through exams no problem at all if that is something you're interested in. Likewise if you're not, no pressure!
