About Antonia

Antonia Thwaites is a classically trained soprano based in Greenwich, London. At sixteen she successfully auditioned for Chetham's School of Music in Manchester where she studied voice and piano for two years. In 2018 she was accepted as a Trinity College London Scholar at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she studied under the tutelage of Sophie Grimmer and gained a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours. During her studies she also completed a Vocal Performance Diploma making her an Associate of Trinity College London. She has five years of private teaching experience, and is always looking to develop her practice. As part of her degree she studied a teaching training elective, which further advanced her teaching skills. Antonia is also trained to sing in Italian, German and French so can coach students to sing in these foreign languages. She studied abroad at the Conservatorio di Musica G.B Martini in Italy, so particularly loves Italian repertoire! Alongside teaching, Antonia continues her own operatic training with world-class teachers, ensuring the tuition she delivers is always current and reflects the ever evolving industry standards for vocal tuition. Antonia strongly believes in the power of singing for wellbeing and aims to create lessons that are joyful, whilst also delivering a detailed technical and holistic training.

About the lesson

Singing Ethos: My belief is that everyone can learn to sing when taught holistically and can experience the satisfaction of discovering the unique qualities of their individual voice. I strongly believe in the cathartic power of singing and that it can support wellbeing and authentic personal expression. What you can expect: I teach with a strong emphasis on building holistic, detailed technique, striving to always put the individual at the centre by finding unique ways to make this accessible and fun. For me, teaching is all about deep listening, not only listening intently to the student and their voice but teaching them how to ‘listen’ to their body and develop their own kinaesthetic awareness. From the first lessons therefore, students learn about the body and the way the voice works. I address this through exercises and breathing techniques, as well as songs appropriate to age and stage. For those interested in gaining a qualification, I also guide students through the ABRSM grades and prepare them for exams. I aim to create a fun, nurturing environment where learning and confidence can be optimised.

Antonia has covered for my private and school teaching many times. She is a very dedicated and knowledgeable teacher with a solid vocal technique and understanding of the voice. Her lessons are a great mix of challenging the student to progress and at the same time having fun whilst they’re doing it. Antonia tailors her lessons to the individual student and creates a very safe space for the student to explore their voice in all its facets. I couldn’t recommend Antonia more as a singing teacher!
