About Carl
I have been teaching singing for 8 years, and I still enjoy the first lesson with a new student. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, and my own training included choir work and small ensemble singing. Those experiences shape how I teach every day.
My studio is a relaxed place where students can make mistakes without embarrassment. Last year one of my adult students sang a solo at her church for the first time after six months of lessons. Moments like that are why I teach.
I work with complete beginners and with experienced singers preparing for auditions. My lessons mix technical work with songs the student actually enjoys. I also write short practice plans so students know exactly what to do between lessons.

Good singing starts with breathing, so every lesson begins there. I teach students how to use the diaphragm with simple exercises they can practise at home. Many are surprised how much easier high notes feel once the breath is doing the work.
Pitch accuracy comes next. We use short ear training drills, and I record students so they can hear their own progress. One of my students used to drift flat in her choir part, and after a few weeks of slow scale work she was holding her line with confidence.
I keep lessons practical and calm. Songs are chosen to suit each voice, and we break hard passages into small pieces. Nothing is rushed.
Students who sing in groups get help with blending and holding a harmony part. I often play the other voice parts on the piano so they learn to stay independent. By the time they return to rehearsal, they feel prepared instead of anxious.
