About Penelope
I have over 15 years of experience drawing and painting, + 10 years figure drawing/portrait focus. I completed my major in STUDIO arts at Concordia University (currently finishing my minor). I was credited the first year of painting and drawing at my arrival at Concordia because of my outstanding portfolio, giving me an extra year to push other classes further. Art isn't any topic: it's about getting in touch with parts of your brain we are often disconnected from. I have a creative approach to teaching, and use several methods. I am academically oriented for my own practice and lean towards tradition as a guideline, but I know when to tap into unconventional exercise when I see a student is stuck. Why you should study with me: 1) I see the big picture. I focus on how your artistic goals serve YOU; no one else. 2) Good technique/creative balance. I have a strong sense of what one needs to use technique as a tool, not a prison. 3) Exercise-based approach. Nothing can be taught, we can only guide towards discovery. Lesson plan: 1) Assessment of your path, your style, your needs and your strengths 2) Assessment of your goals and help towards setting your ambitions to new horizons! 3) Practical exercises to get there. Lessons for any visual artist that wants an external look on your situation. Beginners welcome - art is for anyone.
