About Mira
For seven years, I have helped more than 240 students navigate the fascinating world of chemistry. My academic background includes a master's degree in inorganic chemistry and professional experience in environmental analysis laboratories where I conducted water quality and contaminant testing. This practical foundation enriches my teaching with real-world examples and professional insights. I have worked with students across secondary school and early undergraduate levels, and I am experienced with multiple examination boards and curricula. My students appreciate my methodical approach and my ability to break complex chemical concepts into clear, logical steps. I am particularly effective at helping students who struggle with the mathematical aspects of chemistry develop systematic problem-solving habits. I design custom worksheets and revision materials that target common misconceptions and build confidence through progressive challenge. Outside of tutoring, I volunteer with environmental education programs and enjoy hiking and nature photography. My chemistry teaching is meticulous and laboratory-focused, preparing students for both academic success and professional scientific practice. I teach inorganic chemistry through systematic exploration of periodic trends, teaching students to predict properties and reactions based on element position rather than memorizing isolated facts. For transition metal chemistry, I use colorimetry experiments, complex ion formation, and catalysis case studies to make coordination chemistry tangible. Environmental chemistry is taught through analysis of air, water, and soil data, climate chemistry, and discussions of green chemistry principles. I emphasize the quantitative aspects of chemistry, teaching students to perform mole calculations, concentration determinations, and redox equation balancing with confidence and accuracy. Laboratory skills are integrated through discussions of qualitative analysis techniques and instrumental methods. I teach students to write clear, methodical laboratory reports and to evaluate experimental uncertainty. For exam preparation, I focus on the precise use of chemical terminology, the logical presentation of calculations, and the ability to apply knowledge to novel contexts. My sessions are highly structured with clear learning objectives, review of prior knowledge, new concept development, and consolidation practice.
